Week #10 in Review!

CLASSROOM NEWS
Thank you so very much for taking time out of your busy schedules to come to parent teacher conferences last Thursday!  It was a pleasure getting a chance to discuss your most important treasure, your child.  Thank you for sharing him/her with me this year.

We have two class representatives for our student council.  Congratulations to Colin and Dominic!  I'm very proud of all of the students who prepared a speech and gave the speech in front of the entire class.  Great job third graders!

Congratulations to Kayin for being our class’s top fundraiser!  He earned a pizza lunch with the third grade teachers, three of his friends, and the other third grade winners with their friends last Friday.  It was a fun lunch!

LANGUAGE ARTS
Since we received our magazine subscription, Time For Kids (TFK) the students have been learning how to read articles in a magazine, find evidence to answer questions pertaining to the articles, as well as learn about main idea.

Our class helped our kindergarten buddies shop at the book fair.  Then on Friday we met with them again learn about saying the word PLEASE!  I read a new book from our book fair titled The Duckling Wants a Cookie by Mo Willems.

I will begin a new read aloud chapter book titled Because of Winn Dixie this week.

As you know, we’ve been practicing writing grabbing leads to start off their writing pieces.  They’ve learned how to lead with a sound, a question, dialogue, and humor. Last week this skill was applied to their pen pal letters.

MATH
We finished unit 2 in math and took the checking progress last Friday.  The results of this test will be sent home this week.  We will begin unit 3 Monday.  Click HERE for the Parent Letter to learn more. One of the underlying themes in our math program is begin able to explain your thinking using diagrams, math words, pictures, number lines, etc.

I signed each student in our class a MOBY MAX login and password card.  This is a GREAT way to help your child keep up on math fluency, number stories, and problem solving.  I can login and see how the students are progressing.  It’s a wonderful FREE resource.

SCIENCE
Our next unit will focus on the structures of life.
