Summer Learning

A message from Mark Hess, Executive Director of Instruction,

Technology, & Assessment:

For students, summer is a time for fun and play. It is also the time when learning often takes a back seat and important skills can fall victim to the 'summer slide.' Research shows that during the summer students may forget many of the reading, writing, and math skills learned during the school year.
Our Think-a-Palooza site is designed for parents and students to explore all kinds of learning activities and resources. Check back often as content is being added to the Think-a-Palooza site often.

Week #37 in Review!

CLASSROOM NEWS

Only 2.5 days left of school and I cannot believe it! It has been an honor and a pleasure to work with your children this year.  There has been amazing growth both academically and socially.

Your children have taught me many things this year including football terms, how to dab, and what is “cool” to help me be a better parent to my own third grader.  I learned that I might not be very funny but they laugh anyway,  it’s okay to have  a bad day, and even when I am tough on them (because I care and know what they are capable of) they still love me.  The mysterious notes and letters I receive almost every day from your children tell me this!

They are an awesome group of children who I will miss very much.  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of their lives this year.  Have a wonderful summer!

Week #36 in review!

CLASSROOM NEWS
We met with our Pen Pals last Thursday!  What an awesome day with new friends! I even got to see my own son, Owen, because attends Wixom Elem.

If your child has a summer birthday, feel free to have them celebrate it in class this next week.  They can bring in a wrapped book to share with the class or we can simply sing to them.  This is up to you.

Field Day was a HUGE success!  Mr. Olack and the parent volunteers did it again!  We had a blast and created wonderful memories.

Congratulations to Shaylee for being chosen as the student representative for the PBIS Committee next year!  Way to go!

LANGUAGE ARTS
In class we are doing an author study about Beverly Clearly. I am reading Ramona Quimby, Age 8 to the class aloud.  Beverly Cleary is a well-loved author who has written books such as the Ramona Series, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, Dear Mr. Henshaw and many others! Each student got to select one of her books as a final assigned reading.  The children have until June 10th to complete the book and a comprehension task that involves character traits.
 Check out her author site!

There is NO JUNE READING CLENDAR!

The last big writing piece the students are publishing is about a third grade memory.  I’ve read through some of them already and they are adorable and touching.  I can’t wait to read the final products!
