Week #8 in Review!

Conferences are on November 8th.  Please sign up via Skyward Family Access to make or change an appointment.  Thanks!

We said good-bye to Eita last week.
He moved to Japan. We wish him well!

I am so proud of all the students who were brave enough to give a speech in front of our class to tell us why they were the best ones to be class representatives!  Way to go third grader!

Congratulations to Saimegan and Grant for being voted our two classroom representatives for the Student Council!

We had fun using shaving cream to write words and solve basic math facts with  our Kindergarten Buddies!

The students who turned in their job applications on time now have an official classroom job!  This week will be a week of training and practicing the new jobs.  It is a very exciting time in third grade!  Let the economy system begin!

The third graders have been working on reading punctuation marks.  Reading with expression is very important and helps the reader understand and author's message and adds emotion to the story.

We are about half way through the book Frindle by Andrew Clements.  The students love the battle going on between Nick Allen and Mrs. Granger.  Only time will tell who will win!

Last week the third grade writers learned three different types of leads they could try using for their personal narrative ideas.  Lead with a question, with dialogue, and with a sound.  These personal narratives will take a few weeks to take through the writing process and publish.  Our writers have to think about their audience while creating any piece of writing.  They want to be able to connect with their readers.  The authors were able to try peer editing last week too!

In math we have been focusing on problem solving, number stories, and fact extensions.  The class learned how to play a new multiplication game called Multiplication Draw!

Homework is given every Tuesday and Thursday.  Each home-link is a review of a concept the students have learned in class.  We encourage parents to help with the home-links as well as ask the students questions.

Don’t forget, each student received a login card in order to access the EDM4 games, home-links, and helpful videos.  This card is stapled into the front cover of the assignment notebook that is inside of the binder.  Please click HERE to access this site.

The geologists learned that there are 3 main rock groups: igneous, sedimentary, & metamorphic.  Mock rocks were investigated as well as weathering, mineral hardness (the Moh’s Scale) using scratch tests, and categorizing properties of minerals. This is a vocabulary rich unit. Articles, vocab. cards, and other materials to help your child review should be in his/her science notebook and/or their science folder in the binder.

Unit 2 covers Michigan’s Economy!
The unit 1 BA was given last Tuesday, November 25th.  I will have these available for viewing at conferences if you’d like to see your child’s test.
